SUMMA Construction and TAV, leading construction companies of Turkey, were awarded for two different projects in two different categories by Engineering News Record (ENR), an international construction magazine. SUMMA Senegal-Dakar International Congress Center received the first prize in Cultural Facilities category, while TAV Saudi Arabia – Medina Prince Mohammed Bin Abdulaziz International Airport was named world leader in Airports category.
SOURCE OF PRIDE FOR TURKEY
Selim Bora, Chairman of the Board and Deputy Chairman of Turkish Contractors Association, received the award on behalf of Summa Group in the ENR Global Construction Summit in New York. Cumhur Kaur, Deputy General Manager of TAV in Saudi Arabia and Africa, received the prize on behalf of TAV at the award ceremony. Speaking at the ceremony held in Grand Hyatt Hotel, Selim Bora ve Cumhur Kaur recorded that this award was a source of pride for them and their country, Turkey.The Prince Mohammed Bin Abdulaziz Airport Project, constructed by TAV in Medina, was awarded the first prize in the world in airport category of the competition, organized by ENR Magazine which chose the best global projects in the competition.
BEST GLOBAL PROJECT
TAV Construction, which continues to grow day by day with the airport projects carried out in Turkey and its neighboring countries and is placed at the top in the construction of airports worldwide, was awarded the global first project prize in airport category with the Prince Mohammed Bin Abdulaziz Airport Project. Kaur stated that this award was dedicated to children who were separated from their fathers during the airport construction work.The Prince Mohammed Bin Abdulaziz Airport is the first airport in Europe and the Middle East and the eighth airport worldwide to be certified by LEED – the U.S. Green Building Council. Sanı Şener, TAV Group CEO, stated the following: ‘‘As TAV Construction, we managed to become one the leaders of the industry in a very short period of time with the airport projects we carried out in Turkey and abroad and became the top company in the world by being placed on the first position in the area of airport construction ranked by ENR Magazine 2014. We have further enhanced our international success with the new global best project of ENR Magazine. We continue to proceed on this path by maintaining our leadership in airport construction and our projects which have been crowned by many international awards worldwide.’’
TURKISH CONTRACTORS WILL CONTINUE TO GROW
Mithat Yenigün, President of Turkish Contractor’s Association, stated that ‘‘the contractors, who took Turkey to the second position in this sector on a global scale, continue to enhance their international achievements day by day. We, as Turkish contractors, have been preserving our second position on a global scale with the number of companies for exactly 7 years. This position is a great source of pride for us. I believe that we will further enhance the brand of Turkish contractors with our internationally recognized projects by including our working speed to this positioning.” Mithat Yenigün congratulated and thanked to TAV and SUMMA for making such an important contribution in becoming the industry’s global leader.
